By Adrian Standing-Elk Pinnecoose
Adrian Standing-Elk Pinnecoose (Navajo/Southern Ute) graduated from the University of New Mexico’s School of Architecture and Planning, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Master of Science in Architecture: Computational Ecologies. For over 6 years, Standing-Elk Pinnecoose has been crafting structural and statement silver jewelry, integrating architectural techniques into both jewelry and experimental fashion. His work intricately weaves his culture, identity, and values, aiming to pave the way for the next generation of Indigenous artists.
“At birth, I was diagnosed with Werdnig-Hoffman Type II. Bound to a wheelchair my entire life, I have never stopped to notice my physical limitations. I believe in being positive each and every day, and this has impelled me to push harder, be stronger and never dwell on anything negative.”
Reawakening Transcendence honors both the past and the future, continuing the journey toward a morphing identity and futurism. The collection harmonizes Navajo textiles with modern techniques, envisioning a boundless future filled with limitless possibilities for self-expression. An architectural romance.
